Tottenham Hotspur welcomed German side TSG Hoffenheim to North London for their final game of pre-season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is the first time Spurs have played at home since the drama on the final day of last season, when they avoided relegation, beating Everton by one goal to nil.

It’s safe to say everyone connected to N17 will be hoping they never find themselves in that position again, with Spurs fans desperate for a far more positive campaign this time around.

With the new season just around the corner, this was the final chance for players to impress and stake their claim for a starting spot before the competitive action gets underway.

Richarlison opened the scoring in the 35th minute, stroking home after a lovely move which heavily involved two of Tottenham’s new boys.

Sandro Tonali broke free from the Hoffenheim midfield with a tidy touch. He played the ball out wide to Andy Robertson, whose precise cross found the Brazilian striker unmarked in the penalty area.

It’s Richarlison’s third goal in pre-season, and a much-needed one for the Tottenham striker amid reports of Tottenham’s interest in boosting their forward line.

The second half belonged to Mathys Tel and Tottenham’s own Mikey Moore. The two wingers combined twice in the space of 20 minutes to make sure of a win this afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The first came from some brilliant solo work from Tel, who’s been one of the standout performers for Roberto De Zerbi this pre-season. After beating a couple of defenders down the left, he flashed a ball across the box which Moore got on the end of.

Moore’s second, again, came from inspired play by Tel, whose innovative pass found the Englishman and he finished delicately past a helpless Oliver Baumann in the Hoffenheim net.

Reportedly, Moore’s proposed loan move to FC Köln has been put on hold by De Zerbi, who may believe that the young prospect could have a big part to play in Tottenham’s upcoming season.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Moore in a lilywhite shirt, but a brace today against Bundesliga opposition is just what the doctor ordered and will only boost the confidence of a player who, at times, has found it hard to make an impact in cameos.

On a separate note, it was lovely to see Spurs Legend Gary Mabbutt fit and healthy as he spoke to the fans at the half-time interval.

Xavi Simons also received a great reception at half-time. The Dutchman also appeared at the break, and it’s been almost four months since his ACL injury in Tottenham’s 1-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers last season.

The attendance at the ground for this pre-season friendly was 54,345.
