Tottenham face Newcastle United at home on Saturday with Roberto De Zerbi looking to right the wrongs of his side's opening Premier League loss at Brentford last weekend.

Spurs were embarrassingly defeated by a far superior Bees team last Saturday but have since responded with a comprehensive victory over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup midweek.

Omar Marmoush is ready to feature this weekend having signed for the Lilywhites yesterday, and De Zerbi has even suggested he may well start the game.

In his pre-match press conference, De Zerbi said, “He is a great signing for us, great player. Another great player.”

“Everyone of us loves him as a player and hoping he can do what he’s able to do. He can give more solutions in attack, we need players who can score goals in attack."

Another former Manchester City man, Savio, is also expected to be involved after getting off the mark with a goal on his debut on Wednesday.

Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven are also available for selection. The pair got their first minutes of the season coming off the bench in the second half against Charlton.

Mohammed Kudus returned to training yesterday, following a prolonged period away from the field with injury, and could be on the bench.

The Spurs boss said, “Maybe Kudus could come in the bench, we have to see. Van de Ven is right to play. We’ll see about from the start like Pedro and Savio. Marmoush is available to play, maybe also from the beginning of the game. Udogie is very important and played 60 minutes to the plan."

James Maddison is nursing a shoulder injury, and Roberto De Zerbi has admitted it is unclear whether he will be with the squad on Saturday.

De Zerbi said, “James Maddison doesn’t have a big problem but has an issue in his left shoulder. We don’t know if he’s available for tomorrow.”

“With James, we have to find the right plan. We have to work consistently for three to four weeks and then he's a different player on and off the pitch. He's very positive guy and we're lucky to have James in our team.”

Sandro Tonali is set to be reintroduced into the starting XI, having missed the squad on Wednesday, to face his former club.

Newcastle narrowly missed out on all three points at home to Liverpool last time out. A 99th-minute Dominik Szoboszlai penalty squared the game at 2-2 before the final whistle.

The Magpies secured a 3-2 win over West Brom in the Carabao Cup midweek.

New manager Matthias Jaissle has confirmed new addition Nico Gonzalez is an option for Saturday.

He will be without William Osula, Dan Burn, Tino Livramento and Joelinton, who are all injured.

Jaissle has insisted his team’s approach will not change.

The German said, “We will be facing a top team; it is a difficult change. We will not change our approach. We are facing a really strong opponent; with our playing style we can cause any opponents problems.”

Spurs have been a fixture the Geordies have enjoyed in recent times, winning 6 of the last 8 Premier League matches between the two.

In fact, Newcastle have won more Premier League away games at the Lilywhites than any other opponent (13), running out victors in 3 of the last 4.

More positively for Tottenham fans, Spurs have won their opening home Premier League match for the last 5 seasons.

De Zerbi acknowledged today that his team “have to play better, much better” than they did against Brentford but admitted the Lilywhites need time “to play our best”.

Spurs fans will hope for a far better display than last week in West London, with three points not yet a necessity but certainly desired.
